The Reshaping of Brilliant Minds
The boy sitting across from me is fourteen, shoulders hunched, eyes down, fingers nervously picking at a loose thread on his sleeve. “I just can’t do anything right,” he tells me. “My brain doesn’t work.” His parents brought a stack of evaluations: gifted screening (failed), ADHD diagnosis (severe), academic assessments (underperforming), behavior reports (disruptive).
What none of these papers show is that this boy taught himself quantum physics concepts at age twelve because he couldn’t stop thinking about how everything connects. But he was too busy being punished for not writing out basic algebra problems the “right way” for anyone to notice.
This is how the system serves a few at the expense of many, by crushing its most gifted so thoroughly that its possessors never realize their true intelligence. The most dangerous mind to the system isn’t the straight-A student winning science fairs. It’s the child with Cs who is suspicious because they can see through the fundamental lies the system insists are truths.
