The Path to Survival Requires Our Full Intelligence

When we think of intelligence, we usually think about our minds — our ability to reason, solve problems, and analyze. But intelligence is more than what we know. It’s how we exist in the world. But let’s explore the idea that human intelligence — cognitive, physical, and creative — is a unified whole. Creativity, in this sense, isn’t just a talent. It’s a deeper, integration of our mind and body that connects us to the world and each other. It’s what Socrates might call true wisdom — a whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts.

The Natural State of Human Intelligence

From birth, our intelligence is fully integrated. We think with our minds, move with our bodies, and create by combining the two. This natural intelligence allows us to flow seamlessly between thought, action, and imagination. Over time, however, society fragments this intelligence, dividing it into categories — cognitive, somatic, and creative — while suppressing the deeper, creative intelligence that brings it all together.

To illustrate, think about how we view dogs and cats. Dogs, like humans in today’s world, are trained to follow instructions. Their intelligence is conditioned, reliant on human guidance.
